Meredith played high school ball at J.H. Rose High School in Greenville, NC, and travel ball for the Carolina Wildcats. She still holds career records for home runs hit and earned run average at J.H. Rose. Her 0.29 career ERA ranks fourth in North Carolina history.

She continued her career at James Madison University where she remains the only pitcher in program history to lead the team in wins for four consecutive seasons. At graduation in 2009 she was Dukes all-time leader in virtually every pitching category including total wins, shutouts, strikeouts, and earned run average. Felts averaged a strikeout per inning tallying 581 K’s during her career. These accomplishments resulted in her being named to the Colonial Athletic Conference All-Rookie team in 2006 and the All-Conference team in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

She capped her collegiate career by leading James Madison to it’s first ever CAA championship and the NCAA Regionals in 2009.  She was named the Conference Championship Tournament Outstanding Player for her performance highlighted by a one-hit shutout of defending champion Hofstra. In 2010 she was named to the CAA Silver Anniversary Team honoring the conference’s best players over its’ first 25 years.

Felts became the first JMU player to play internationally when she helped the Mannheim Tornados win the 2009 German National Softball Championship. She led the team in hits and compiled a 0.00 ERA while earning a win and two saves in the championship series.

Felts began her coaching career as a volunteer intern at the University of North Carolina in 2010. She then served as the pitching coach at Charleston Southern University and UNC-Wilmington where she recruited and/or coached the career strikeout leaders at both schools.
